Beef and Broccoli

Ingredients

  • 1-2 lb top sirloin, flank steak (cut against the grain)
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • 1 bag frozen broccoli
  • 3 strips of green onions
  • garnish with sesame seeds
  • oil to fry (I used coconut oil)

For the Sauce

  • 3 tbsp garlic chopped
  • 3 tbsp ginger chopped
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

  • Place your beef in the freezer for about 20 mins before slicing to make a thinner cut easier.
  • Heat a cast iron pan on medium high with a few tablespoons of coconut oil.
  • While the pan heats, slice your beef into thin strips against the grain.
  • Season your beef with salt and pepper on both sides. Then, toss into a large ziplock bag and pour the 1/2 cup of cornstarch in and shake it until the beef is fully coated.
  • Start a pot of water to boil for your frozen broccoli. Once boiling, dump the bag of veggies in and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the broccoli and sauteé in the cast iron until browned slightly and season with salt and pepper. Add in chopped green onions as well. Set cooked broccoli aside.
  • Add a little more coconut oil into the cast iron pan and fry the beef in small batches and set aside on a paper towel. Cook all of your beef and set aside.
  • Next, mix up your ingredients for the sauce in a large bowl.
  • Add the cooked beef to the sauce and coat the meat.
  • Dump the saucey meat back into the cast iron along with the cooked broccoli, turn the heat down to low and allow the ingredients to thicken up together.
  • Serve with white rice and garnish with sesame seeds!
